New Lino Print of Porthleven

New Lino Print of Porthleven

After two months of carving and printing, my Porthleven lino print is finally finished. It has been one of the most time-consuming linocuts I have worked on, but also one of the most rewarding. Strangely, it’s also the first landscape orientated piece I’ve completed.

There is something about lino printing that demands patience, every cut is permanent and every small detail takes far longer than expected. I’m not know for my patience, especially with myself, but the process of lino printing has taught me to slow down.

Porthleven has always been an inspiring place, and I think many people will have seen a photo or video of the clock tower with dramatic waves crashing over it at some point. Capturing my vision of Porthleven proved more difficult than I imagined. What started as a simple idea slowly evolved over weeks of carving as I worked to balance detail and space in a way that still captured this well-known coastal town.

Throughout the process there were moments where I genuinely thought the print might never be finished. I readjusted fine details repeatedly and spent many early mornings working on it before starting my day job.

Although I often wish my main job was working as a printmaker, having a day job makes me stop and give my brain chance to reset instead of overthinking my artwork. Spending that much time working on a single lino print changes the way you see and feel about it, especially when it’s back to front!

Now that my linocut is complete, I am excited that the print will soon be available to view in Four Crows Gallery in Porthleven in Cornwall, along with Gallery 38 in St Ives. It feels fitting for the piece to end up in the same harbour town that inspired it from the beginning. It’s a perfect memento for your home, or as a gift to a loved one.

Thank you to everyone who has followed the process and encouraged me in my work along the way. I’m always grateful for your support, and it spurs me on to develop my skills and work further.

You will also be able to purchase this print from my online shop from the 1 June 2026.
